Join us at Penrose Bewery, 6 PM, and help us make blankets for needy kids.

Ana Powell, Geneva High School student, who has a wonderful program called Good Night, Sleep Tight. She and her friends collect things for foster and displaced children, to have a good night sleep in their new home.

They especially need pajamas sizes 10-16, books for middle school or high school teens, or throw blankets for boys.

For monetary tax deductible donations, make checks payable to Geneva United Methodist Church. Please note Good Night, Sleep Tight in the memo section of the check.

From Ana 11/2/15
Somebody asked me for directions to make fleece blankets.  Here are the instructions:

FLEECE BLANKET INSTRUCTIONS

  1. THIS FIRST STEP IS IMPORTANT.  PLEASE DO NOT SKIP IT.  Trim off any selvage (curled or white edges) around the edges of your fleece.  Cut as straight as possible, but remember, these blankets are forgiving!
  2. Place one piece of fabric on top of the other making sure the edges of all four sides meet as closely as possible.
  3. Using the provided 4” X 4” square paper and lay it on the corner of the blanket.  Then cut out the corner through both layers.  Do this to all four corners.
  4. Time to make the fringes.  Cut 4 inches into fleece at 1” wide.  It is easiest to lay the ruler across from the corner of the cut out from one corner to the other.  The fringes don’t have to be exactly 1”, but keep them close to that.
  5. Proceed to cut 1” intervals on all four sides.
  6. Tie the two corresponding fringes together.

Note: You can also make single tie blankets. It’s best to tie each fringe individually with a loop tie.

Please use two yards of fabric per blanket. We are currently in need for patterns for older teen boys.

Also, somebody asked if donations could be made online.  The answer is yes!  Simply go to www.genevaumc.org and on the left hand side clink on the “donate now” link.  Please be sure to designate Good Night, Sleep Tight in the comment section.  The church will send a receipt for tax purposes.

Sincerely,

Ana Powell
